Cookie Policy Enhancements
Challenge
Ensuring new U.S. surveys met privacy requirements required manually configuring cookie consent banners for each survey. This increased operational effort, created opportunities for inconsistent compliance, and often required engineering support to accommodate client-specific exceptions. Additionally, unstandardized cookie consent options risked confusion for respondents or potential interruptions to their survey taking experience.
Solution
Cookie consent banners are now automatically enabled for eligible U.S. surveys by default, helping ensure new surveys meet privacy requirements without additional setup. For surveys with unique client needs, Operations can now manage exceptions through configuration settings instead of requiring engineering support, reducing manual effort and making compliance easier to maintain. Survey respondents are enabled to make informed consent selections when taking surveys.
Benefits
- Simplify compliance: Automatically apply cookie consent banners to eligible U.S. surveys, reducing manual setup.
- Reduce operational effort: Enable Operations to manage client-specific exceptions through configuration instead of engineering requests.
- Improve consistency: Help ensure new U.S. surveys meet privacy requirements by default.
Pendo Native SDK Integration
Challenge
Pendo analytics and in-app guides have previously been available on SMG's web solution only. On mobile we had no equivalent visibility into how clients use the iOS and Android apps and were limited in the app guides that could be created. Bringing Pendo to mobile, using the same visitor and account data model as web, gives us consistent usage insight across every surface and lets us guide users directly inside the apps.
Solution
Pendo's native SDK is now built into the mobile apps, set up so it never blocks startup and can be switched off remotely if needed. Mobile now identifies users and their organisations the same way web does, so the numbers align across both. The apps track how people move through key screens, in-app guides can be configured, and usage can be filtered by client organisation. On Android, the SDK was also moved to a supported version, staying ahead of a Google Certificate Transparency change that would otherwise have put Play Store submissions at risk.
Benefits
- Mobile usage is now visible in Pendo, giving us a clear view of how the apps are used.
- Web and mobile analytics stay consistent because mobile sends the same data model as web.
- Usage can be filtered by the active client organisation, so we can see which clients use which features on mobile.
- In-app guides now work on mobile, giving teams a new way to support onboarding and adoption.
- Android Play Store submissions are protected from Google's Certificate Transparency change.
- The setup is release-safe: Pendo never blocks app launch, failures are logged rather than crashing, and it can be turned off instantly if needed
